Considering reblogging. I don't agree with everything, but it mirrors some thoughts I've been coming to in a meta I've been working on for a while, or how women are shamed for having powerful characters. I don't know if the entire concept of Sue is sexist in itself, but there has definitely been misogyny between the lines of the accusation of Mary-Sue.
Irene Adler: How To Butcher A Brilliant Woman Character
I finally got through Sherlock s2 (was waiting for it to come out on DVD.) I may talk about it, though it feels like everything that could be said was said months ago, so it's a big load of why bother.
I might anyways to clear my mind.
The Awesome Ladies Ficathon and Art-a-thon 2012
Also, Kiu drew A PW/FE fusion with Ike/Soren. It was my Christmas request, based on a few snippets of Ike Gawain, Inexplicably Successful Attorney I had started a while ago.

Date: 2012-06-28 05:58 am (UTC)The definition of a Mary Sue character, (purely) IMO, is any character, regardless of gender (because "Gary Stu" and "Marty Stu" both sound kinda dumb to me; Mary Sue has a very specific origin as a term), who gets screen time far out of proportion to their actual role in a story – or, alternately, whose role in a story expands in a way that is neither credible nor believable. Looking at it from that perspective, there is a substantial number of canonical male Sues. Especially in anime / manga.
As for Irene, I have not watched the BBC Sherlock, but her movie counterpart (i.e. Rachel McAdams) seems to be the opposite of what the show suggests. And the 'fic those movies have spawned has been quite a lot of fun to read. :-)

Date: 2012-06-28 06:32 am (UTC)I'm mixed on the character. On one hand, hot lesbian domme. On the other hand, she wasn't handled so well. I'd still be up to see her in fic, though. Because that would be some smoking hot femslash, there.
I liked Irene in the Ritchie movies. I love Rachel MacAdams in general, too.
