fic_promptly any, there is a cat somewhere in this house. More for Becks. :D
Akiha had a business trip he was off on, one that meant he'd be gone for the rest of the week. However, not an hour went by when there wasn't a lovey-dovey text, steamy voice mails on his phone.
Just as usual.
Umeda wasn't left alone, however. Before he had left, Akiha had dropped off a little black bundle of fur with green eyes. It had hissed and spit all the time Akiha had petted it. The idiot already had a nice collection of scratches up his arm.
"It reminds me of you, senpai! Akiha had cheerfully said.
Umeda had wanted to name it 'Little Bastard' because it seemed fitting, but Akiha had guessed this, and pointed out that the girl he'd gotten it from called it Kuro-chan.
Now, Umeda eyed the cat. The first time he had picked it up, the little bastard had clawed his hand up. Now it was sitting on the edge of his couch, pretending like it didn't give a damn, but nudging against him demanding for Umeda to please get to the pettings already.
Umeda idly petted it on the head. The kitten begrudgingly purred.
Umeda could see the resemblance.
*
That night, Kuro-chan slept on Akiha's side of the bed. By the next day, it had curled up into the clothes Akiha always kept over. It followed him around suspiciously, and pretty much stalked him if he ever got into the kitchen.
He found out by pure accident that the cat loved cheese. A piece fell from his sandwich, and the cat leapt in and snuck it away, only to stare up at him and wait for more.
Maybe they should've called it mouse, he thought with some grim humor. The idiot would probably love it.
He was halfway into forming the text before he realized that he was sharing adorable animal stories with his not-boyfriend, the idiot.
He shut off the phone. In his mind, he could almost just hear Io's I told you so.
*
Akiha got home early. He almost always did, just so he could grab Umeda up in his big, strong embrace and hug him and snuggle him and all the stupid romantic idiot things he was prone to doing.
He also always brought home gifts, like he spent most of his trips looking for just the right souvenirs to bring back. Between the texts and the souvenirs, it was a wonder he got any work done at all. This time, it was bitter dark chocolate and even some toys for the cat.
Umeda always preferred bitter and spicy things to sweets.
Not that he even got more than a cursory glance at the bags, given that the idiot had him in a tight embrace and was determined to snuggle.
"I hope you weren't lonely, senpai~" He cooed between kisses. "Did you miss me~? I missed you horr~ibly."
Umeda glanced the way to the cat, the other unwanted intruder in his life.
"Of course I didn't miss you, what, did you think I was going to send you cute cat anecdotes?" Umeda snapped. Akiha didn't pay much mind to the outburst. He just kept snuggling, as per usual.
The cat continued staring, like a guilty conscience brought to make him admit that okay, maybe he didn't delete those sappy things Akiha was always sending him.
And maybe, just, maybe, he didn't mind Akiha's presence as much as he said he did.
A look over, and he could swear the cat was smirking at him.
