In summary:
total: 23 pieces, 25,215 words. Hee, it’s the reverse of last month! Otherwise, I felt groggy for a good half of the month so I didn’t get quite as much done as I wanted. Actually, I did a ton of work on this one WIP project, a good 6,000 words of dedicated writing but I currently don’t count stuff that was

[livejournal.com profile] myaru does. Maybe I should start too.

On that note, if you’re counting along and go IT DOESN’T ADD UP I attempted to estimate only what I finished this month. Several of these were pieces I started in other months and simply got to finishing this month.

I suppose the biggest disappointment is that Thick As Thieves was the only thing I got to update. I worked at most all my other current WIPS, posted or in progress but I just couldn’t finish them in time. Hopefully I can get them on for this month.

I thought about separating the comics from the written books since it's almost cheating considering how fast I can read them, but Sandman totally counts as literature so they all stay.

The word count thing started back when I was trying to keep track of stuff I wrote outside of class versus for an assignment. Now I'm trying to keep track of my average output in a given month so I know how much I CAN produce, if necessary, without the burnout that comes after Nanowrimo. So in-progress stuff counts.

If you just want to keep track of how many fics you wrote, or list it as an accomplishment, then maybe it's better to look at just the finished stuff. I'm not sure, but whatever works for you, right?

You always make me want to read more. How do you get through so much? Admittedly I'm really lazy about it and read in spurts, but... geez. I haven't managed a list like yours outside a semester schedule.

Well, in my case, I just finished a fic in a new month when I worked seriously hard on it the month before. Because I only count what I actually finished that month, I'd only get to count maybe 200 words of finishing off and editing :|

It's more than simply accomplishments? I'm trying to keep track of how much I'm writing to make it easier for the end of year round up. I want to keep track of the variances (length, genre, how much original I'm doing, etc) so I can fix the issues.

This is deceptive XD At least half of what I read were comics, and of those comics, The Absolute Sandman 1 was the only one which wasn't a quick read. What wasn't comics was audio books which can be listened to at all times of the day or while working. The rest were rather short. Botchan, Last Night At The Lobster, The Cement Garden and The Tombs of Atuan were all under 200 pages. I have a thing for novellas at the moment. They're kind of an obsession, possibly because of how sparse and pristine they are when done right -- and because under 200 pages seems a doable goal for writing my own novel.

Huh. I need to post my thoughts on the books. I keep meaning to start up the sorta-of-review post, but I keep slacking off on it.

Hahahah, god, that yearly round-up meme was a pain in the ass, you're right. That's actually what made me think of doing monthly word counts to begin with, but then it turned into this contest with myself to write more more more and fail more too. But I do run into that problem, where you've written most of a fic one month, and then finished it off with two hundred words the next. That's why I count unfinished stuff - otherwise it just throws off the numbers, and that's bad for my purposes.

Tombs of Atuan! I really liked that one, and haven't gotten to The Farthest Shore yet. It gave me a crazy dream that turned into the backdrop for a story. I'd like to read anything you say about the book. Nobody geeks about it, really.

Old fantasy and SF is really good about packing content into small packages. Honestly, it seems like the current fantasy trend is to pack the books full of filler to make them longer when they'd be better at two or three hundred pages. Not everything is like that, but sometimes they go on and on and on.

It took me over THREE DAYS to chronicle mine. I nearly gave up like all the other years when I meant to.

I liked Atuan's creepiness and the psychology, but Arha annoyed me a bit with her fits. It's understandable, but still I found it more grating than compelling. I think the most notable character of all was the tombs itself -- and Sparrowhawk, who was awesome as per usual.

Is that Eragon and Twilight syndrome? XD I actually am quite lacking in the fantasy department. I read a bit of YA fantasy when I was younger but I never touched the sort of "High Fantasy" I've started on a few series as of late but I'm trying to not burn myself out like I've managed to do with other genre books.
