As for me, I'm still keeping my GJ in backup and I'll probably archive most of my fic somewhere else. It's a shame as I've always relied on LJ and enjoyed using it, but something like trust isn't so easily regained.
People have been reporting sites for years and being ignored, told that lj can't do anything, and one woman threatens to go to the advertisers and they go on a deleting spree
Cnet heard from them days before we did.
So does LJ really value, their paying customers?
Why not let their actions speak for that one?
while I'm at it, I had intended to comment on Sue's original blog entry, but it's now deleted, this letter deals more with her methods. I am thinking of emailing it to her, as it might help future mistakes.
First off, I’ll say your reasoning is rather puerile. Saying whoever disagrees with your draconian methods is automatically a pedophile is the equivalent of a five year old saying “Johnny stinks, and because you agree with him, you do too”
I for one, am I not pedophile. I don’t read rape or incest, unless you count Flowers in The Attics or Lolita, which I hardly feel is a crime worthy of suspension.
Last time I checked, the America we live in – the one you claim to love so much, was one where you’re innocent until proven guilty. But you let yourself become the judge, jury and executioner all in one, Sue.
you say “it’s worth losing a few rights to protect the children” but Benjamin Franklin said that “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety”
You can’t have it both ways, you can’t claim to be a patriot and fight for the rights of the country then trample them just because “it’s for the children”
Fighting children being molested is a noble cause, but you’re doing it entirely wrong. So far you’ve made it so rape victims can’t get the support they dearly need, pissed off some harmless fangirls with overactive imaginations, and you’ve made the TRUE pedophile hunter’s job much harder because you drove them underground – not only that, you made a post on how to emulate a child for talking to pedophiles! Not only have you made them harder to catch, you’ve made them smarter. Now they’ll catch more children and be able to spot someone who’s trying to catch them.
Sue, if you want to fight pedophiles, leave it to people who are trained, or volunteer to go undercover. Screaming from the top of the hills only makes the pedophiles burrow deeper.
It also makes you a pharisee.
You see, Jesus said how the pharisee’s would pray loudly in the streets so everyone could hear them, when they fasted, they did it dramatically, so everyone could know that they were fasting.
But Jesus said a true believe would go to a quiet place and anoint his head with oil, so that only his father in heaven would know, and thus would bless him.
And before I go – you really need to work on the “love one another thing” believe or not, God loves sinners, be they pedophiles, gays, druggies, communists, or even hypocritical self-righteous right-wing Christians who trample all over his word and pervert it into something hate-filled and disgusting.
