Day/Theme: August 20: / I have tasted the bitter and the sweet of affairs
And walked over the rough and smooth path of days.

The path of excess leads to the tower of wisdom
-William Blake.

at one year together the neighbors get used to all the random yelling and the other noises that seem to often emanate from apartment 5D. Umeda only shrieks HE’S NOT MY BOYFRIEND about half the time.
At three years Io triumphantly catches a Freudian slip where Umeda mistakenly called the idiot “his boyfriend” instead of “my unwilling tennent.” she never lets him forget it. Ever. (There are two creatures on earth that never forget anything. Elephants and Io.)
At five years Umeda wonders when the idi– Akiha is going to stop acting like a lovesick teenager. By seven years he learned that would be never. By ten years Akiha knew all of Umeda’s spots (just below the clavicle, along his neck, and other places much, much lower.) All his favorite foods and shows, wines and colors and almost all his secrets. He lets Umeda keep some of his secrets and pretends that he doesn’t know that Senpai is rather irritated at just how well Akiha knows him.
By eleven years Umeda rips out one page of the “K” section in his phonebook, (which is archaic, Akiha always pushes him to update!) And thinks about maybe learning how to work a computer well.
By eleven and a half months he takes unofficial lessons from Rio. Two days later the whole family is emailing him constantly with idiotic forwards and gifs and dancing cat flashes. This almost marked Umeda’s Official Leave Of The Internet if it wasn’t for a huge amount of pleading on Akiha’s part.
By twelve years Umeda has to put his foot down and say No, you cannot change your name to Umeda Akiha no matter how much my mother likes you! by thirteen years Umeda realizes that Akiha knows a lot more about him than he does about Akiha. By thirteen and a half years, he does something about it.
By fourteen years he isn’t much closer to finding out Akiha – but is caught, red-handed and dragged through the personal hell of having Akiha never let him forget it the next time he tries to pretend Akiha is actually a vagrant who he doesn’t know. (Though, he rarely does that anymore.)
By fifteen years they’ve outlasted two family marriages, and Umeda gets a ring that he utterly REFUSES to wear. ...except maybe on a necklace under his clothes.
