For Em. Happy (early) Holidays.
Tiki rubbed at her eyes. It was the gardens she'd fallen asleep in. A butterfly had landed on her nose. Its wings opened up in a flood of color, and it alighted away. She blinked, surrounded by brilliant flowers of all colors. At the center was a bench, where she'd taken a seat, and nodded off for who know's how long.
"My lady, Fie, there you are! I have searched all of Askr castle and then some. I was afraid you'd gone wandering into the lands beyond."
Tiki turned around, and sleepily considered Say'ri. Her guard, and closest friend. Even in a world where she'd been reunited with Mar-Mar--bittersweet as it was.
A hitch in her breath. Tiki turned around. A faint smile graced her lips.
Say'ri's cheeks were flushed. The way the sunlight made her dark, thick hair so brilliant. The willowy strength of Say'ri. There was so much beauty to appreciate in her companion.
Tiki yawned. "You worry far too much, Tiki."
"Nay, my lady. I fear I do not worry enough."
Tiki chuckled. "If you say so."
"Do you like my new dress, Say'ri?" Tiki said. A bit shy, perhaps even a bit coy, on the edge of flirtatious. With lashes slightly downward cast. The way of a maiden, flirting--Oh, thousands of years old and she was still so new to this.
"Kiran seems to have joined forces with Oboro in assigning these. For those who have been here the longest, Oboro has been making us new Vestments based upon the lands."
"Like this festival garb? Are you off? I hadn't realized they'd planned another one so soon," Say'ri said.
"No, simply like a badge of honor. They say the fibers are woven with substances which increase our power."
"Not that you would need any, my lady," Say'ri said.
Tiki chuckled. "Perhaps not."
Tiki admired the cloth shawl which made up her 'wings,' like those of a butterfly. But, when they opened, it was like series of eyes. Oboro had done some complicated explanation about the habits of butterflies who tried to scare away potential predators with patterns in their wings.
"For some reason, it reminds me of nightmares, of Grima."
A slight shudder. but Tiki shook her head, and weathered the storm.
"Grima? Nay, that nightmare has ended."
"Grima attended the last Harvest festival with us twice," Tiki said.
"Well...They were just here for the candy. And technically, the contracts prevent and bind Grima's influence."
"Which is good...yet strange to fight beside our ally. Even more with the fluffy costume," Tiki said. She trailed off at the memory of candy, gotten with her younger self and Little Tiki's new friend, Ninian.
"I think you look nothing like Grima. In fact, you look striking--breathtaking, even."
Say'ri's gaze went down Tiki's form-fitting new outfit. The dark, muted colors, the gold inlay which Oboro had so lovingly made--with help from Forrest, of course. Even roses were tied at her dark boots.
And it lingered perhaps a bit too long, enough to suddenly look away, with an even deeper flush in her cheeks.
How interesting. Had it finally happened? Tiki was no master at flirting, even less at a longtime friend and companion. Where affection between them was commonplace, it was difficult to find the words to take a step further than friendship. But, oh how Tiki had tried. Say'ri would just think it another oath sworn between comrades and friends.
"Ahem, Kiran and Anna were sending out some for a Hero's Journey. I was wondering if you would do me the honor of accompanying me. We are off to go in search of the orbs--the components to help the gate open, of course."
"But, if you are too tired, then I could wait."
"No, I've just awoken," Tiki said.
And to more than just this dewy morning. Say'ri's dark hair was framed with the sunrise and all its lovely pastel colors. Her robes were dark, and form fitting in a way that matched Tiki's own. It pleased Tiki, it pleased her greatly.
"I shall gladly go with you. To anywhere, I think. To the flames of Múspell or the Ice of Nifl and beyond."
"My plans were to start towards the market and buy us a snack, for I t'would not wish you to be famished, my lady."
"Even better," Tiki said.
