Oh, and Phoenix and Maya gossiping is canon!

last chapter.

"Nick, it's been ages. It must be quiet out there, now," Maya said.

And it had. Maya had returned to Kurain and Phoenix had returned to the Wright Anything Agency, which was quite a bit emptier, now.

Phoenix smiled grimly. "Athena and Trucy are moping now that Apollo's gone overseas, but I'm proud of him. He's really grown up."

"I still remember when he first came to us. I started leaving paper bags for him to breathe into during his hourly Chords of Steel session. It was a good thing our building doesn't have anyone else too close, not with how he was screaming I'm FINE at the top of his lungs constantly I almost miss it," he said.

Maya grinned wide. "You've grown old, Nick. Your kids are leaving the nest."

Phoenix chuckled. "Actually, we got a new recruit, and more...Though, we weren't the only one to lose some of our staff. Ema went overseas too."

"Oho?" Maya clasped her hands and smiled mischievously. "She's giving it all for love, eh?"

"Seems that way. I half think I'll lose Athena too. She still hasn't cheered up since Apollo left. At this rate, Khura'in is going to take all our finest lawyers and detectives."

"Ah~ Prosecutor Sahdmadhi is quite crafty, then, stealing away your brightest and best," Maya teased.

"I'm hoping my new recruits will be immune to his charms," Phoenix said with a sigh.

"Hugh, is it?"

"Yes, that's the one."

Maya chuckled. "The courts are always so lively. Remember it, Nick?"

"I never forgot for a moment. So many cases we barely made it through. They're not always good memories. I almost lost you a few times," Phoenix said.

"But you always saved the day, like Steel Samurai," Maya said.

"We're already into another generation. Hee hee...it seems we've grown old, though I hardly feel it." Maya smiled mischievously.

Through the years, many things had changed. Apollo had grown up and formed a law office of his own, Trucy was dating, something that Phoenix was still trying to come to terms with. Edgeworth had become the Chief Prosecutor, Phoenix had gotten his law badge back and Maya had become the head of Kurain.

And Ema? She'd gone and married a foreign prosecutor. One who'd even managed to defeat Phoenix himself once, though he'd managed to scrape by at the very end. He never thought the girl so obsessed with science, who helped him with Lana's case would grow up to become (technically) a princess. Even if by Khura'in standards, she'd never inherit the crown for real, having no spiritual power.

He expected if she ever stopped by the precinct to work again, she'd demand the other labbies and detectives address her as 'princess' just for kicks.

"Hey, you promised me you'd take me out for burgers next time we saw each other," Maya said. She smiled, as he had seen so many times. Like she was plotting some sort of prank, that he would only find out about later.

And, through it all, some things never changed.

Phoenix smiled. "Of course, it'll be my treat."

He closed the door on the Wright Anything Agency. Even the props looked a little lonely now. Trucy was out studying an advanced magic course, Hugh was finishing up his other job, and now Phoenix was off for lunch. He closed the door and stepped out. The sun was too bright, until he had to shade his eyes.

Maya was ahead of him, always so eager to go. Just like old times.
