Imagine your otp going to Walmart together at 1am to get some ice cream・What types of ice cream would they choose? Would they fight over what to get? Toppings or no?
A store around me sells closeout stuff and there was these summers where there were SO many ice cream due to some of them being damaged in transit. It was awesome. You could get whole boxes of them and just enjoy a whole Halo top if you wanted. You could even eat two.
Nahyuta had promised her a vacation, except murders kept happening. Pretty rude of people to go and get killed during their vacation. Anyways, neither of them could resist solving a case. So here they were. Worn out after working through their vacation, and groggily searching for dinner after pulling a twelve hour shift when they were supposed to be going to see the butterfly house.
Still, Ema loved her job, and her prosecutor-boyfriend-boss, so she wasn't too upset. They'd still have room to fit in some of the spots. Though they might have to change their airport tickets.
A lot of restaurants had closed by the time the last of the paperwork was done. Nahyuta was a stickler for details. Even if he could've left it to someone else because it wasn't their district or case, he did it all. What could she say? It was things like this which made her fall in love with him.
And that long, flowing hair which she loved to run her fingers through. That sure helped.
So that left them having to go to one of the local stores which stayed up late. Ema had crumbs where no crumbs should be, her lipstick should've been reapplied ages ago because she bit it all off, and her hair needed another brushing after the wind.
Nahyuta looked like a freaking divine being. Untouched, unscathed, glowing with beauty. The sort of person who on sight would elicit a second glance to make sure they were real.
His brocade sherwani didn't have a single stain, his hair hadn't a single strand out of place. And after way too much paperwork, he still looked alive.
While Ema looked like she was halfway to a zombie costume. And it wasn't even Halloween.
If Target was a 'supernatural spot' at 1am, then Walmart at 1AM was like a waiting room for murder. But Ema had needs, and they always involved carbs and sugar.
Okay, almost always. Sometimes her needs involved Nahyuta, a lack of clothes, and a few hours alone.
Ema glanced listlessly over the frozen food, none which interested her. At least the room had a microwave. That was something. Though having to cancel their plans for a microwaved dinner didn't really make her feel great, even if they had solved a big case.
A big neon sale sign caught her eye.
Ema gaped at the two for one the freezer broke special on Halo top ice creams while browsing an otherwise lackluster freezer section.
"Quick, get a cart! I can't carry all these, and I just know somebody is going to try and beat us to them.
Nahyuta glanced back from his cart, which he had filled with fresh fruit. Because of course he did.
"Ema, there is only a small refrigerator there. To my understanding, these are extremely fragile and perishable, and will surely spoil," he said.
Ema couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, Nahyuta. You seriously think that many of these are going to last until morning? Hell, a ton of these aren't going to last the hour."
Nahyuta took a sharp breath. "Impressive."
"You think that's sexy? You should just see the creative things I can do with a carton of ice cream."
Ema tossed in polka dotted birthday cake varieties, deep brown chocolate, velvety yellow lemon cake, white vanilla bean, green flecked mint chocolate chip, red velvet cake among others. A tired cashier didn't even blink as she bought every one she could afford.
Oh yeah, and they bought some fruit too. For him.

They hauled up plastic bags filled to the brim and Nahyuta opened up the hotel door. He knelt down and packed the fridge while Ema picked the flavors. She picked for Nahyuta too, so she could share a bit with him. Because life was too short to never have tasted birthday cake ice cream.
Originally they'd gone for some great honeymoon suite--but they got pushed out by a Klavier Gavin concert, of all thing. He'd been inspired, went solo after one of his band mates ended up in jail and now spent his time partly in the courtroom and partly singing about how impressive the defense was.
Which in the end was yet another reason to have a grudge against him. Because they ended up in a bland beige room with a tiny bed, a television, a mini-fridge and not much else. Even the bathroom was tiny.
The mini-fridge was full to the brim, but it wouldn't be for long. Not if Ema had anything to say about it. She forced that plastic spoon down deep and took a spoonful of heaven.
They sat down on the carpeted floor. Nahyuta with his long legs crossed into the kind of flexible, meditative, sexy way which reminded her just the way he could be flexible in other places.
And she didn't mean the court room.
Which probably wasn't the way to think of a monk, but he was her monk. Besides--Khura'inese monks weren't celibate.
Nahyuta was contemplative, even reverent about the food he ate. He took slow bites and savored each mouthful.
"Here, lemme have a taste."
She leaned in and kissed him. His lips were cold and full of the perfect sweetness and softness. Addictive, even.
"Mmmm, pretty good," Ema said.
Which was an understatement, but when it came to him, she got a little tongue-tied.
After every kiss, Nahyuta looked dazed. Especially now. Except this time, it wasn't all her.
"What is this--A taste of hell in something so sweet..."
"Oh, brainfreeze. Try putting your tongue to the roof of your mouth. It'll go away after a few minutes."
She finished the rest of her ice cream and settled into one, then two more. Nahyuta went at a slower pace. She had to admire his restraint. Years of monk training made him mindful in all things to appreciate a life which could be beautiful at times.
Ema leaned back and groaned. "Ugh, my stomach hurts. But I still want more," she said.
"Perhaps we should put it within the freezer and save it for breakfast."
"Nah, I'll just push through it. It isn't the first time I've ignored an aching tummy to go for seconds. I keep peppermints around to soothe my stomach anyways."
Nahyuta stared at her for a long time.
"What? Don't get all weird on me. You know how I am!"
"I was merely thinking that you are the perfect woman."
She laughed.
"Lucky for me that your idea of perfection is 'sassy, eats like a pig and can't resist a sale.'"
Nahyuta shifted a bit closer, to cup her cheek in the most tender way.
"My idea of perfect is an unforgettable woman who is in parts brazen, strong, intelligent, beautiful, and enjoys food as much as I do. I am lucky to have been incarnated into this life the same time as you to know you, and even luckier to be able to love you."
She blushed. Damn, nobody could do it like Nahyuta. How could she follow up to something like that?
"Uh, thanks," she said. It wasn't enough, but Nahyuta never minded if he got her so hot and embarrassed with the kinds of monologues he'd go through about how great she was. Because even if she could be mean and snide and a pain in the ass to work with, Nahyuta still thought she was a complete ten.
She set aside her empty ice cream carton and leaned back.
"Uggh, if I eat anymore I'm going to really regret it. Even I know my limits. They'll be like soup tomorrow. But we can turn them into milkshakes. That would be fun too."
"You never had milkshakes?"
"I tried. The machines were always broken. I began to think it was perhaps a test of my faith," Nahyuta said.
"Good point. We'll get you some milkshakes. Everyone should have one at least once in their lives. There's got to be a working ice cream machine somewhere in the world, and we'll find it."
"Tomorrow, should no putrid actions occur, our vacation will go on as planned."
She smiled. "I bet you'll love the butterfly house."
She'd already checked Yelp to find the best restaurants, so they could enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner together finding new foods to experience. It was always such a blast to see Nahyuta learn something new.
She wondered if it was like that for him, too. If the first taste of Gingihl or a new festival which left her in awe was as fun to watch. From the soft way he watched her as he explained facets of his culture and language, shared it, included her into his homeland was any indication, he did too.
"I am looking forward to tomorrow very much. Though I always look forward to spending time with you, even if it is mundane."
She leaned in, because she could say how she felt much better this way than blushing and mumbling her way through his affections.
One last kiss for the night. They were a little too exhausted for anything more, especially with how full they both were. His lips were cold, and sweet and perfect. And even if her vacation got waylaid by murders, even if they'd missed their dinner reservations and might never make it to the water park at this rate, she was still having a great time.
