Word count: 1,690
Author's note:
Or, I try and figure out what the fuck is going on with this Harmonic.
Largely gen, but contains a lot of mentions of IkeSoren, because it is Nina's OTP. Mine as well.
This Nina hung out with Soliel and Ophelia a lot and it rubbed off on her.
Nina rushed through the castle. All stealth was forgotten as she passed heroes from every country and era, and nearly knocked several over. She'd just heard the news overheard in the library, when she was looking up history on her favoritest of favorite pairs. She'd nearly dropped the book when she heard--which was no good, as she might get banned from the library, and then how could she research the proper historical context for her own little stories without it?
She could sneak in, but when she was reading history, and she heard the quotes of that war, like how Soren declared his undying loyalty to Ike for the thousandth time, she would sigh loudly and dreamily.
She'd be bound to be caught if she was so loud.
(Also, Reinhardt often was in the library and she was not crossing that guy. He came from a far off land, and was a terror in the arena and--everywhere else, really.)
She caught sight of Kagero talking to Orochi at the end of the hall. Orochi waved and left off to do my fortunes.
"Is it true?! You've opened commissions again?!"
Nina caught her breath at the doorway.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to interrupt. I had to make sure I got a spot."
Kagero smiled. She pulled a mask over her face and tied at the ends. Her long dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail.
"Yes, that is true. But I have been called away on a mission, so your order will have to wait until I return."
She swallowed down her sadness. She'd been waiting for so long for her favorite artist to get back to drawing again. She'd saved and saved for the chance that one day, she'd have a real Kagero original on her wall.
She noticed that Kagero had a far different outfit now, a tight black catsuit.
"What kind of mission is this?"
And when the explanation came, Nina couldn't help but smile.
"A thieving mission? I'm a thief! Let me help you. That way you can get back faster."
"Well, I won't say no. And you'll get your fair share of the take," Kagero said.
"It's a deal," Nina said.
*
Nina got a catsuit of her own, one with a high neck and an overlying skirted tunic, and best of all: a long, flowing cape.
(She should write a story where Ike and Soren were thieves, but ones that only targeted the rich and protected the poor. And how they would kiss then, in the middle of a mission--oh! She could hardly bear the thought, how it made her blush.)
Cath and Sothe were there, as well as a new arrival named Rickard, and another Lelia. They all had tight catsuits like hers. Leila's was with a butterfly theme, Cath's had a cat theme, and Sothe's was honestly a downgrade from in the war where he wore a crop top.
(She'd read so much about his exposed abdominal muscles in the history books--there was a whole chapter dedicated to his croptops. A shame he kept being so clothed.)
The bandits had sacks of heavy gold. They were way too slow. Nina jumped up from on high, and made a dramatic landing. (Hanging out with Ophelia and Soliel was rubbing off on her, for sure.)
Crap, forgot to bring a weapon again. At this rate she'd be mistaken for Vaike. (Who totally had a crush on Chrom, by the way.)
"Take this! The pen is mightier than the sword!"
She threw her quill right at the bandit. To her surprise, the bandit fell over, knocked out. Dang, had somebody ensorcelled her quill while she wasn't looking? Maybe they dipped it in magic?
"Now that's some killer fanfiction!"
She struck a pose that would've done Ophelia proud. Maybe one day, they could all go on a mission together. Except they'd all have different catch phrases, so it wouldn't work. Soliel would go "for cuties!" and Ophelia would go "for fate!" and she'd go "for IkeSoren, the greatest love story of all time!"
But, maybe it'd still work. Like one of those magical girls she read about when she read the history of where Elonora and Itsuki came from.
"Good job. We've got plenty more to go."
She felt a rush of pride. Her favorite artist had praised her! Maybe Kagero would even do a collaboration with one of her stories where Ike and Soren were happy and kissing together!
Just imagine!
*
Nina handed the big bag of treasure, her take for the night.
Of course, they'd returned all the gold to the villagers, but they'd gotten paid, too. These catsuits didn't come cheap.
"This should be enough, right?"
"That's far too much," Kagero said.
"Consider this a tip. The only treasure I want is art of the greatest love story ever."
"Oh? What would you like me to draw?"
Nina balled her fists as she began to speak. Just as she said the words, her heart was aflutter.
"I need art of Ike and Soren from the land of Tellius!" Nina burst out.
Kagero titled her head in thought. "Ike, the lord of Tellius and his tactician?"
"Yes, them!"
"I'll need more details. What will they be doing? A simple portrait? A pose? A heroic battle?"
Holding hands? Kissing? Oh, just the thought made her blush. Also she might not want to ask for anything too explicit unless she wanted Soren to kill her.
(Though it seemed kind of unfair that there were historically nude drawings of Chrom, made by his ever loyal Frederick. Who was totally in love with him, by the way. She often referred to the history of Ylisse as: Every Guy Wants To Bang Chrom, Especially Robin.)
"Um, something romantic, which sums up them. A tender embrace in your style."
Just the thought made her blush. She held her face as she gushed on.
"They're only the best love story in any of the worlds! Ike and Soren make me believe that love exists when I when I'm lonely. Back when I was in the Deeprealms away from father, I read a lot about heroes and other lands. And I fell in love with their love story. I couldn't stop reading about them. I didn't feel so alone when I read about Tellius."
"I hope you didn't follow them around, for your own sake," Kagero said.
"No, I like living," Nina sighed.
"Soren's just as bitter in real life as he is in the scrolls. Except, he softens to Ike....and it is beautiful. Sometimes I see them across the hall and I'm reminded once again that love exists."
Kagero smiled. "I understand. I should have it finished soon."
"Really? I'll look forward to it!"
Nina left back to her chambers. She already was thinking of a new story where Soren was a famous artist and Ike was his favorite muse.
*
After breakfast, she received a note delivered by ninjas that Kagero was waiting. She could hardly keep her excitement at bay as she rushed to see her new art.
"A-Already? Did you draw all night?"
"Usually, I make a sketch and send it back to the commissioner to get their approval. However, this time, I was hit with some inspiration," Kagero said.
Kagero pulled off the cloth and showed the art. On it, Soren looked draconic with dark eyes. He had fangs, and the design was almost horrific. Ike was more buff, and more stark in this design. They were in a golden world, and their clothes almost blended into the background. In a golden world, Ike embraced him and held him close, seeming to kiss his cheek. It was gorgeous and vaguely horrific all in one.
"It's...beautiful. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! It perfectly sums up them."
Honestly, Nina wouldn't be surprised if she had pupils made of hearts and cartoon hearts all around her as she looked at her favorite pair ever.
"They're my heroes. Ophelia says I shouldn't go up and tell them, though. That it'd just make Soren angry. Maybe I could write a letter. But should I sign it, or would that sign my death warrant?"
Or write two hundred and counting stories all about them, some where they played instruments.
Nina puffed out her cheeks. "Soliel says so too--which is real rich, considering that these days every single conversation with her is just about her idol, Heather, and how she hopes to be as cool as her one day."
"You heroes? Because they saved Tellius?"
"Sure, that's great. But reading them made me realize I like girls and boys. I'll always be grateful to them for that. And reading about how Ike accepted Soren no matter made me feel a little less alone back then. Even now, I feel warm in my heart whenever I think how much they love each other."
But how did one go by the way, thanks for making me realize I'm bisexual?
"I'm going to put this on my wall. I'll see it every morning and feel overjoyed all over again."
"I'm going to go on tons of missions, until my room is full of your art."
"Well, you certainly tip well. I'll be sure you know when I open commissions again."
"I'll be waiting!"

In my mind, the art style is a mix of Gaharaazel's Ikesoren art and The Kiss by Gustav Klimt.
