When Nephenee got back from her patrols to a barely lit room, her foot brushed against something. She drew her feet back, but it wasn't crawly, or scaly, and nothing came out from the depths. Had she been so tired the night before that she left a mess of dirty clothes?

Usually Nephenee wasn't that bad, but sometimes after a hard day's work, she just put some things off until morning. Things had been rougher lately at Askr. Far more attacks and guarding to do.

There was a package left at the foot of her bed, wrapped in brown paper.

What could this be? Her birthday wasn't for months yet.

She unwrapped it, a mite bit groggily. Inside was some kind of dress, and something else wrapped up inside. Was this some official decree in the uniform change?

No, it couldn't be. This was far too pretty for that. She unfurled it by candlelight. Inside was a long tunic dress of white that came to about her thighs. She held it up to herself, and felt that softness. It was spun with a real interesting type of thread. Like the softest cashmere mixed with the softest cotton she'd ever felt. It was like it was perfectly made to fit with her armor, too.

There'd be no armor blisters or bruises with a dress like this.

Wrapped up in the dress was new shiny armor and real expensive jewelry. A necklace with gemstones embedded in pendants, and even a little bangle for her foot. Nephenee had never seen such luxury in her spaces.

That was for nobles, not some common farm girl like her.

Even her spare spear and helmet had been completely decorated with ribbons and flowers.

A crown of flowers, like she was some fairy queen.

Had she caught the attention of some secret admirer? She dug around for some note, and finally found one tucked at the very bottom.

Come to the Day of Devotion. I'll be waiting ♥ -H

She blushed and held it to her chest.

Heather was here? Truly? This wasn't some dream?

She'd been waiting for so long. It'd been right lonely to be the only one from the country. Brom hadn't even come until very recently.

Once again, she felt just as warm as when Heather talked to her with that smooth voice of hers.

*

The whole town square was prettied up, with bows and flowers all over. Kiosks selling all sorts of goods, from flowers to give to the one you loved, and candy of all kinds.

Nephenee had always felt a little twinge when she passed by these, because the one she loved wasn't even in the same realm as her.

But, finally, Heather was here. Nephenee kept passing her spear from side to side, and glancing about. Not just her usual watchfulness, working along with the Gatekeeper to keep this land safe, but for sight of a hint of gold.

She and Heather had something in common, it seemed. They both really loved gold.

The dress was even more beautiful actually on Nephenee. So pretty, she could hardly believe it was her. It shone in the sun like a white gem. And there were fresh white flowers for her hair. She arranged them so she could wear her helmet, too. It'd gotten her through an awful lot of battles.

"Look what my wife made for me," Brom said proudly.

He had a shiny silvery plate of armor over a white tunic, and loose white pants. His spear, too, had a decoration of flowers and ribbons, though Nephenee's were white and his were red.

Nephenee smiled. "You look real made up, Brom."

"I haven't been this dressed up since my wedding day. Ah, those memories. Where Molly Mae was waiting for me at the end of the aisle. I almost fell over because I was so distracted just looking at her," Brom said.

"There's my Molly Mae and Meggie. Come to poppa!"

She let out a little sigh. Brom looked so happy to see his wife and kin again. And no wonder. Nephenee missed her family so much that she'd take even hearing the triplets wailing if it meant she got to see them.

Sending home letters through a portal was a bit complicated.

"There you are."

Nephenee turned around, and there she was. Heather was framed in sunlight, in a way which made her hair even look more golden.

She looked fit to be royal, fit to be married in those purple pants, and a low-cut top edged with lace, and a big ribbon there. Her blond hair was swept back with flowers. She wore big tall white boots that came to about her knees with a flourish, and long white gloves.

Honestly, Heather looked like... a real prince charming. Or at least, the only prince charming she'd be waiting for.

Heather held a huge bouquet in her arms. So big, her mouth was almost obscured by it.

""H-Heather! Y-You came! You really came!"

"Dear, are you crying? I didn't break your heart, did I?"

Nephenee sniffled, and rubbed at her cheek. "It's just been so long. Since I was summoned to Askr, I've been a bit lonely. I missed you..."

"...and the rest of the soldiers," she added hastily, with a blush.

"Sorry it took me so long. I was searching the seven realms for a good way to cure my mother once and for all. All those troublesome wars slowed me down considerably. "

"So your ma still isn't feelin' better? That's a real shame. I was prayin' for her."

"I've found some good leads, and some good dressmakers. Though, finding that dress was certainly worth going through several realms for," Heather said.

"You...er, stole the dress?"

"Now, I'll have you know that I had it made from funds I stole from some complete dastard."

"Thank you, Heather. It's beautiful. I've never had something so pretty. I can scarcely believe it's real..."

Or that Heather was really here. She'd been waiting for so long. Every time she'd hear that some heroes from her land were summoned, and it'd never be her. She'd always wait at the edge of the summoning place, just in case.

Now she didn't have to wait any longer.

"That's a shame. You deserve jewels, crowns and the most beautiful clothes imaginable," Heather said.

Nephenee blushed. "I'm just a farm girl. Can barely keep from tripping over my tongue, and too shy. But, I'm good with a spear, good at haulin' hay and mindin' the young'uns."

"You are much too hard on yourself. You are completely gorgeous, and strong enough to rival even the King of Phoenicis himself."

"H-Heather, you're making me blush!"

"As you should."

"This bouquet is for you."

"Heavens above, this is lovely. And so big that if you whacked somebody on the head with that, they'd be knocked out real fast."

Heather laughed. "Oh, Nephenee! You have such a way with words."

"Ain't nobody ever said that before, except sarcastic-like."

"No sarcasm here, I promise. I missed you too, you know. You're a memorable girl, Nephenee. A thousand or more pretty girls over so many lands and I can't stop thinking about you."

Nephenee could only stammer and blush at that. Heather rescued her from having to form a coherent sentence, other than Heather...pretty which was all her mind was giving her right now.

"Tell me more about this festival," Heather said.

"The Day of Devotion? Well, it's a day for love. Families and lovers go out. There's lots of candy. Honestly, I've mostly been doin' the guard work. Though, I saw Ike and Soren here. They even got dressed up in matching outfits. I think Mist sewed them all for her family."

Because Heather wasn't there. So every festival of love felt a little emptier without her there. She'd gone to Day of Devotion over and over. There was even that time when people from her country came, and it was extra disappointing when she kept waiting at the edges to see if Heather snuck on by.

It'd be just like her to sneak in unannounced.

But, finally. After literal years of waiting, Heather had finally come to Askr.

"Then I picked just the day to arrive, now didn't I?"

Nephenee blushed.

"A-Any time would've been good. The Harvest festival, with some pretty costume, the Winter one with all those red little suits and passin' out goodies for the children,, even the Spring one dressed up like bunnies, as long as you were here."

"If you say anymore, I'll have to kiss you, because you're just so cute," Heather said.

"I-I don't trust myself to say a darn thing, but if that means you'll k-ki...." she couldn't even get the words out without blushing even deeper.

And Heather kept to her word. She lifted up Nephenee's chin and she felt that blond hair against her cheek as she leaned in. Being kissed by a girl was the softest, most beautiful thing she'd ever known and felt. It was so right, right down to her core.

And it didn't matter that the bouquet was smushed between them that first moment, or that the petals tickled her chin, until they broke apart for a second and laughed at the little bit of awkward shifting. It only made the first kiss of her life that more stunning.

And this time, she moved the bouquet away, so Nephenee could feel every curvy inch against her. Enough to make her feel almost dizziness with the softness, the sweet flowery smell of Heather's skin, the way her fingers moved.

Oh! Dang, kissing girls was enough to one hit knock out. Heather better save those kisses for off the battlefield or they'd both be in mighty trouble.

And not the fun kind of mighty trouble (or mischief,, more like) that Heather would get into.

"S-Sheesh, H-Heather. Way to knock a girl right out. Do that again and I might faint."

Heather laughed. "Call it a sneak attack. You have no idea how long I've been wanting to do that to you."

"M-Me too, if we're bein' honest," Nephenee said.

"We could get sweets, but your lips are already much sweeter, and I have to say I'd love another taste of them."

"Wow, we're gonna cause a real stir at this rate," Nephenee said.

"Then we'll be memorable together, dear," Heather said as she leaned in for another kiss.
