meta: Reading Him

Other than a callback to Dhurke's feelings about Amara, I feel like Ema's reactions to not being able to read him is really telling.


Can you imagine her going "I wonder... He's calm, and kind, and almost always has a smile on his face......but it's hard to tell what he's really thinking." about Prosecutor Winston Payne?


And honestly I've said it before and I'll say it again like...who on earth thinks of their boss like that if they don't have a crush on them? Everything she responds to as every lawyer and assistant everywhere mentions that he's so obviously into her is really open to the possibility of that being so, and wondering what he's really thinking all along.

Speaking from my own experience, my thoughts about my bosses veered from "Oh my God, stop looking over my shoulder and let me do my work!" to "shit, I hope I didn't come off as awkward in that pitch!" to "I feel a weird sense of dread around you every though everyone says you're cool, and I do not know why."

I literally never have gone to my friends and went "you know, everyone says my boss is really fond of me but I can't tell what they are thinking at all?"

There's also the fact that she keeps slipping up and mentioning his smile, his clothes, even his eyes as she's trying to figure him out.

Not, "I can't figure what my boss is thinking. How the hell am I supposed to do my job when he's like this?" but "God, my mysterious boss has such a gorgeous smile and I can't figure him out and sometimes he pisses me off, but did I mention he's gorgeous and I'd totally date him, even if he an asshole sometimes?"


You know what it does sound like? That point when all your friends come over and you read over the texts from your crush and go BUT WHAT DOES HE MEAN BY THAT? HOPE I SEE YOU TOMORROW? IS HE JUST BEING FRIENDLY OR DOES HE LIKE ME? COME ON APOLLO, YOU KNOW HIM, HELP A GIRL OUT HERE!"
