meta: Blood in the water motivations
Apr. 6th, 2015 07:19 pmTumblr post in case it stretches.
As of Blood In The Water, the motives of many key players in the plot are suspect, especially Administrator and Miss Pauling.
Now, I don’t believe Miss Pauling is fully betraying Administrator. However, she has begun to investigate her employer, sending Heavy and Scout under the pretense of working for Helen. Instead of merely following orders and trusting Helen, she is determined to find out what happened in those six months, and who worked for Administrator.

Heavy caught on more than Scout, who was too distracted by the idea of being selected specifically by Miss Pauling to get that he is now investigating his former employer.

So the question remains, what is Miss Pauling doing? For years Valve has been developing the Australium plot. Now it’s seen that the major objective of Gray Mann was the Administrator’s Australium cache. More than just enhancing power, mustache growth and technology in Australia, it extends lives. And despite the mercenaries being gone, the Administrator managed to get almost every cache in the world, in a very short amount of time, no less.

Though, unknown to Miss Pauling, Engineer was working with Administrator, so that accounts for one person. It’s also noteworthy that Helen says “Don’t worry about Medic” meaning that Medic may also be working as her mole.
The leaves the question, who else has Helen hired? The TF2 classic mercenaries worked for her once before. Perhaps some of them aren’t so loyal to Gray Mann after all…
All of this leads to the Admin’s true objective in all of this. Earlier, I would have guessed it was simply because she could. However, this update revealed she may have much deeper motives than expected. Between this and the earlier scenes with Miss Pauling, it shows that the Administrator may not be the big bad in all of this, that all along her motives were serving someone else. (It also shows that through all her ruthlessness, she is able to care about people around her)

Her objective is now looking like it isn’t power of life. She played the Mann brothers against each other, and has made a reign of tyranny for what?

Even Charles Darling asks the same question:
why?
Now, Miss Pauling, originally one of Admin’s most loyal lackeys, is asking the same question.

Where does this leave us? Two years ago when the leaked draft pastebin of Expiration Date was going around, I told Multiversecafe “mark my words, Miss Pauling is going to be the next Administrator, and there will be a loyalty crisis.”
This very well could be coming to pass in the upcoming updates.
