Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
Less, I think. Though in retrospect, I finished a lot more than I thought I did.
What’s your own favorite story of the year?
I liked Stop The Wedding, Judgement of Steel and Lace, The Super Date, Roads Taken and Trial By Fire a whole lot.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I'd say so, yeah. Roads Taken and Trial by Fire both were emotional, long and plotty. I mean, I've done it before, but I thin with Trial By Fire I did it the best I've done so far.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I had set it at 120k, but considering that I reached 200k on a lean year, I might up the ante. More origific, finish all my WIPs and owed stuff.
My best story of this year:
I liked Stop The Wedding, Judgement of Steel and Lace, The Super Date, Roads Taken and Trial By Fire probably. Also the HIMYM stuff was a delight to do. Even the stuff which made me cry.
My most popular story of this year:
The How I Met Your Mother stuff was really well received. In general the fandom is actually really nice and very prone to commenting and leaving lots of kind feedback.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Poor Trial By Fire. Actually poor all my fics, but that was the one I put the most work into.
Most fun story to write:
The Super Date was really adorable and fun and a lot of fun to do. Also Judgement of Steel and Lace was really easy once I got the ball rolling.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Spontaneity, I guess. I didn't write a lot of porn because I had way less privacy this year since I started moving again.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Dutch Courage made me rethink Sniper's characterization. Epic Challenges Of Destined Rivals made me think about Saxton and Mags' characterization a lot.
Hardest story to write:
Trial By Fire OH MY GOD. I misjudged how much it would take to finish by about 11k. I already had a big chunk done and only had a little in the middle and the end to finish, but I still ended up writing hardcore with only Multiversecafe's enthusiasm to keep me going. I'm not kidding here. I was pushing myself so hard that I was completely running on empty.
Most Unintentionally Telling:
Wit of The Saircase again. I don't know what I'll do with myself when I'm done with this story. Where else will I bury my angst?
Biggest Disappointment:
Less fic and more the anthology pieces I missed due to writer's block or finding out the deadline too late. That and Trial By Fire's reception. A part of me wants to do some massive edits to Something New. I misjudged how big it would be. In the eleventh hour, it decided to be like 100k instead of the 20k I had already done so I just had to release it in parts.
Biggest Surprise:
How I Met Your Mother is a joy to write, and I'm actually good at it. I spent so long going "no, I can't write this. I won't be able to do them justice." But when I actually tried, it just came so easily.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
I really didn't ever see myself writing Five Nights At Freddy's fic. It was a pinch hit, though.
Choice Lines:
"What can I say? I go hardcore," Scout said.
"Scout, you're sitting on a pink metal bouncy kitten covered in glitter," she said.
Scout looked down at his ride. He patted the top of the cat. People just didn't understand Miss Fluffles.
There's probably more, but sifting through 200k of work is ehhhhhhhh.
