The same thing happens (well, past tense) in Suikoden fandom - probably still does, it's just that I don't care anymore. The fandom gravitates to a few popular pairings and the rest of the characters get no love. Re: ToS, I haven't played it, but I'm in the middle of Abyss. I liked the look of Symphonia, but never got around to playing it.

Yeah, see. Zelgius is like a really exaggerated version of the swordmaster cliche, only... with bonus loyalties to Sephiran? Finding Greil doesn't actually interfere with his mission to destroy the world, and in fact is very useful for getting wars started and stuff, so I can see why Zelgius wouldn't find his motivations difficult to marry ahahahahaha. And fighting Ike comes with the territory after that. It probably helped him keep matters in line for Sephiran.

But then, the question of which he loves more, his grudge against Greil or Sephiran, comes up. :D Since he dies saying that he won't keep his lord waiting, well... possibly, in the process of all of this, besting Greil's swordsmanship became secondary to finding a way to die with Sephiran?

Altina is... yeah, I don't know what to do with her either. I've attempted a few times, but there's nothing to go on except two really big swords.
