The thing about het (especially in a show like Grey's) is that you get your hopes up because, it could be canon! And then it is! Oh happy day! But then it gets smashed to pieces and you go "ow D:" You don't usually HAVE those expectations when it's a gay pairing, because it's never going to happen anyways (unless it's Clamp) so you can stray from canonland and chill with the au crowd.
