end of year fic meme

Looking back, did you write more than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
More! I'd forgotten what a good kink meme can do for my inspiration. I had a general goal of writing every week / 52. I surpassed that in number but it didn't all come once a week. Final number: 57.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Now, Ace Attorney is an old favorite, one I've never really left, and I tend to get fannish whenever Apollo gets plenty of time. For example, I loved the first trilogy, but it was AJ which got me writing fic.

I didn't figure my latest love would be Nahyuta/Ema, though. Ema vaulted from a character who made the game considerably more annoying in AJ, and who I pretty much had nothing but NOTps for, to wife goals and life goals and probably one of my top tier favorite characters.

I also personally tried to veer away from writing fic for B99 or being fannish about it beyond posting like, things from the wank free edit tags, because I love the show and didn't want it ruined by wank, but s5 was so good I took the plunge. Turns out B99 fandom (or at least Jake/Amy fandom) is really chill and happy.

What’s your favorite story this year?
Honestly I like a lot of them. One thing I'm noticing as the years go by is that I'm liking more of my work. Whereas in 2011 I felt stagnant and like I wasn't moving forward. But from 2013 on I've really felt like my fic has a lot of momentum. I don't know if it's simply I'm not posting things until I'm happy with them, that I'm editing more, or just that I've improved that much.

Most popular story this year?
I don't write popular fic, I write rare pairs which get like two kudos and that's if I even bother to post them. But I guess the IkeSoren because I actually posted them, lol.

Story with single sweetest moment?
FF, like I can choose!

Story with single sexiest moment?
The PW kink meme stuff I wrote by default. Savor and Oaths are the two steamiest NC-17s. The other NC-17 was more tender.

Hardest story to write?
Though it spans several years, the latter parts of A Sorta Fairytale had to be rewritten quite a bit until I felt like it would suffice. We're talking like between 2012 and 2017 I would often go back to it, go "this is the year I finish it!" and then just hate the last chapter. Also that IkeSoren vacation fic was one I'd been blocked on for years and I had to cut down a ton of parts to it to finish.

In the end I still feel kind of eh about it, but the recip loved it and it made her Christmas much better when it was going very poorly, so I'm glad I finished it.

Easiest story to write?
A lot of the kink meme fills came real easy.

Biggest disappointment?
The only disappointment is my health was so bad earlier in the year that I had several months which were low to no progress. I eventually pulled much more productivity later on, but it was still a little disappointing. Also that my ideas for extreme productivity on my housesitting didn't align with the reality that my family would be there for quite some time, so I didn't really get a ton done until they left.

Biggest surprise?
I checked out the series Baby Daddy on a whim to try and inspire another fic. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story?
Something New remains this. Alice isn't me, or based particularly on me, but I did use a lot of memories from my childhood for her. Hell, I used some present memories for her, just edited a bit. Also some of the HIMYM stuff was directly connected to my mood at the time. Though those won't show up until the new year because that's when FandomStocking posts.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
Actually, my goals are more origific in nature. I'll keep finishing WIPs I didn't get to this year, generally hold off from new fandoms and new ideas to focus on older stuff. I'm trying to take control of my time. I'm ADHD and so distraction is a huge issue for me.


A few lines from this year that you're proud of?

TBH i'm proud of it allll which is a nice feeling, because I remember just feeling utterly stagnant and like I wasn't going anywhere in 2011.
