31_days][october sixth][yami no matsuei] quite contrary
Hnn. I keep thinking there's something else I should add to this, but.
Title: quite contrary
Day/Theme: October sixth/ overwork
Series: Yami no Matsuei
Character/Pairing: Hisoka, Tsuzuki (background hints of other characters, too.)
Rating: PG
A/N: for those who were anime!only or don’t remember, volume six mentions that Tsuzuki tends a (rather successful) garden, he brings in a very large bouquet in for everyone after the library is rebuilt. In concurrence with theme 23 for

there should be a follow up to this, as I had another idea which would take longer to pan out and it sort of lost focus, so.
When it is spring the cubicles are always filled with a little bit of life. Daffodils for Wakaba, an arrangement of baby’s breath and daisies for Tatsumi, carnations for Watari, tulips for Hisoka.
Whenever Hisoka visits Tsuzuki’s house (to return forgotten things, paperwork, to make sure his idiot partner hasn’t drunk himself into a stupor and is eating right – because if he doesn’t no one will) there’s always a fresh arrangement of flowers just inside the hall, easily visible from the wide, low hanging windows.
There’s the thick scent of waxy and pale gardenias just beside the porch rail, the brush of a morning glory’s running up a white trellis, the paint peeling just a bit.
It isn’t too much of a surprise when Tsuzuki comes running from his backyard, his face partially sunburnt, knees dirty and the skin on his fingers blistered and tearing.
(Add a hat and gloves to the list, Hisoka thinks, inwardly sighing. Can’t Tsuzuki remember even the simplest things?)
Under Tsuzuki’s gentle care the flowers flourish, no one can get them to last as long as him, and Wakaba is always asking about his secrets, to use for her own small garden. Watari often asks due to scientific curiosity, and Hisoka wonders if maybe he’s trying to get back in Tatsumi’s good graces after the last lab fire, or just for his own experiments. (Tatsumi had threatened to cut Watari’s pay completely until the repairs were finished. Of course, this only worked until Watari made an impromptu move – into Tatsumi’s apartment, claiming that without pay he wouldn’t be able to eat, thus, Tatsumi would have to deal with it.)
Hisoka reclines close enough to Tsuzuki to smell the faint traces of him, the scent of dirt and sweat and flowers. He’s never seen Tsuzuki so peaceful, with work and debt left at the gate, there’s nothing but life and hope and beauty here.
For now there’s the sleepy feeling of laying in summer grasses, slightly long, and the feel of them around his rolled-up jeans, with Tsuzuki a few feet away, tending to his garden. Bent over some wildflowers and looking comical in an old t-shirt and ripped, stained jeans.
There’s a light in Tsuzuki’s eyes when he talks about his flowers, the plans for renovations, which he drags Hisoka off to see, each and every one, painting here, renovating an unused room in case of visitors.
“..and one of these days I’m going to make an arbor, and buy a swing and make this place really beautiful”
Considering Tsuzuki’s debts, Hisoka doubts that will be anytime soon, but then, they’ve got all eternity, so there’s no hurry.

I always thought of Hisoka with those white lilies that are so translucent there's a bit of green in them... hmm.

Like Calla lilies? I know they were "his" flower in the flowered art... Watari had Sunflowers, I think Muraki has Stargazer lilies (or was that Tatsumi?) I think Tsuzuki had tulips *ponders*

This is definitely one of my favorites. Such a sweet and peaceful atmosphere ♥
