"It's been a while since I've seen you, Watanuki-kun," the proprietor said.

"I was running an errand," Watanuki said.

He blinked as he saw one of the stock boys at the Green Pharmacy walk by with a large sign on his back I am in denial.

"Don't mind the staff, he's just being punished for being a very naughty boy," the proprietor said.

"Ah....Thank you," Watanuki said awkwardly. He paid and put the bag over his shoulder.

As he left the store, he could hear the sound of the two stock boys arguing.

*

"Tadaima," Watanuki said as he opened the door. The bells at the door awoke a sleeping Larg, who sprung up with twitching ears. The scent of opium, spices, alcohol and the tangy hint of magic greeted him; he could always smell Yuuko long before he caught sight of her. She was nearly passed out on a couch, her painted feet hanging over the side.

Yuuko's eyes lit up when she saw the ingredients. She reached out, and he slapped away her fingers.

She had been passed out enjoying her hungover morning. Now she pushed herself up, her loose silk robe almost falling off her voluptuous frame.

"What is it this time?" She said.

"You're having Kamameshi," he said.

He hefted the bags up, but she stared at the grocery bags intensely, like she could see right through the material—and knowing her, she probably could.

"You brought home wine," she said.

"No," Watanuki said.

"You can't hide it from me, Watanuki, I am a seer of all things alcoholic," Yuuko said with a catlike grin. "They don't call me the Oracle of Wine for nothing!"

"Yes, but–It's not for you—!"

Yuuko looked at him thoughtfully for a moment, stroking her chin. Suddenly, she lit up with a knowing smile.

"It's for Doumeki!" she said triumphantly, pointing to him.

"Doumeki~ Doumeki~" The girls chanted in unison.

"Watanuki has a boyfriend!," Larg cried.

"Was it really necessary to teach them that?" Watanuki said.

"Yes," Yuuko said, grinning wide. "That's what you get for being late with dinner, and for not bringing me a bottle back as well."

He hadn't even unpacked the groceries before Larg and the girls had found a wedding kimono. He crashed pots and pans, irritation rising as they planned out his entire 'wedding' in a singsong voice together.

Even through the chaos, he kept a close eye on the food. It wouldn't do for Doumeki's food to be burnt.

*

Doumeki Swept out front as he approached. Watanuki already feeling the mix of annoyance, more annoyance and worry affecting him. There was a stain on the back of Watanuki's dress uniform and his hair hadn't been cut.

Doumeki tensed his grip on the broom, staring at Watanuki like he'd seen a ghost.

"Oi, what are you looking at?" Watanuki said.

"Nothing," Doumeki said.

He put the broom aside.

"It's only been a week!" Watanuki said, throwing up his hands in exasperation.

"A week too long," Doumeki said.

"Are you eating enough?" Watanuki said. He could've sworn that it looked like he'd lost weight.

"No," Doumeki said, with a sullen edge to his words. "You haven't been around."

It was a dance of words and wills, one step forward and two steps back. Watanuki thrust out the bento towards him, sullen, petulant and yet with a caring underneath.

"Please accept my feedings!"

Wait, that came out wrong.

"I mean, eat this, you big lug."

Doumeki glanced over him before taking the food. He made his way to the bench on the far side of the building. Watanuki followed him, until they were both seated side by side.

"Are you sleeping enough?" Watanuki said.

"No. You've been gone," Doumeki repeated.

Watanuki frowned. "What'd you go and do that for?"

Doumeki didn't look up from his food. He had the gall to look annoyed.

"You figure it out," Doumeki said.

"My lease expired. I'm about to move apartments," Watanuki said.

"This is good," Doumeki said.

He took another bite and chewed slowly, before swallowing. Watanuki felt restless in the pause in conversation. Was Doumeki really this worn? Honestly, the minute he wasn't looking, Doumeki had to start looking like a stray dog.

"I got a dowry from your employer today," Doumeki said.

Watanuki coughed so hard he choked. He couldn't say he was surprised, but that didn't stop the emotions from flaring up.

"I accepted it," Doumeki continued.

"Wh-WHAT? This isn't funny!" Watanuki shrieked.

"Who's laughing?" Doumeki said.

Watanuki found himself blushing uncontrollably. He hid his face in his hands, covering his eyes with his splayed hands. Doumeki set his food aside and pulled his hands from his face. He didn't say anything, but he held Doumeki's wrists and didn't let him go. It was with a light pressure that Doumeki clung to him. The same hands that could wield his bow with such strength could touch with such gentleness when it came to Watanuki himself.

Watanuki looked down at the nearly empty bento box, the sliver of his uniform which showed so much more wear without Watanuki around.

"I'll move closer," Watanuki said. "And I'll make sure you eat every day, so you don't start looking like a stray dog again."

Doumeki glowered. "I don't look like a stray dog."

"Yes you do! You need a haircut and a bath and about ten more pounds!"

"You're a fussy wife," Doumeki muttered.

Watanuki glared back at him. "I heard that."

"Good," Doumeki said.

He let go of Watanuki's wrist. Watanuki almost wished he'd held on just a bit longer. Watanuki glared out at the small scene of nature at the shrine. If he stormed off, he'd just return again with more food. They were tied together in knots together. He couldn't take a step away without returning to Doumeki, even if it was just in his thoughts.

He sighed. Yuuko would be sure have fun with this. He fully expected to come back to the shop to find a drunken Yuuko humming a wedding march at him with a kazoo.

"What do you want for tomorrow?" Watanuki said.

Doumeki looked up thoughtfully from his food. "Tonjiru," he said slowly.

"I'll buy the pork tomorrow," Watanuki said.

"I'll go with you to the store," Doumeki said.

For once, Watanuki didn't argue.
