2 icon tutorials

Today, there's going to be a couple tutorials for these two icons:

These were made in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, but is simple enough that it should work fine with other editions of photoshop, and probably GIMP and PSP as well.

Okay, this is the image we're working from. For this effect you have to have the black bars, either as the screencapping process or adding them yourself. In this case, it was a part of the cap.

Now duplicate the layer and set it to 35% visibility.

I added a texture from hybrid-genesis here (texture 34, to be specific), but using that is entirely optional. Then there's 03000d# set to an exclusion layer, which is again, optional.

Now, we are going to use this texture from evorycode, though any old galaxy type texture will do. Set it on screen or lighten. Color doge, linear burn and all the other lighten settings also work, but these two are the ones I get the best use from. I personally set it to screen, then put it at 69% visibility.

And voila.

Now, on to the second one.

First, make sure you resize to approximately 70-80% when readying your image. In this case, I went with 80%.

Now, make a new layer and make sure it's behind the picture. Fill it in with a color which is similar to the background of the picture, but doesn't quite seamlessly fit. I used #525869 in this case.

Overlay the picture of Homura once on soft light.

Now, I'm going to use this texture from hybrid-genesis. It's #34 again. Another texture with similar coloring could also bring the effect, as long as it was grungy and had a golden hue. Set the texture to multiply.

Finally, put in a blue exclusion layer. I used #00050c

There you have it.
