August 4: She left her life on Monday - Serial Experiments Lain - Silhouette. - Gen with minor hints at Lain/Alice -
[Spoilers for the end of the series]

Things that aren’t remembered never existed.

There was nothing particularly out of the ordinary for this day, Alice thought. It was Tuesday, the day before had been just as unmemorable. But something nagged at the back of her mind. A silhouette marred the sunshine, but when she looked back, no one was there.

She walked to school with Juri and Reika, their chatter surrounded her, she smiled and talked, but something was missing, someone wasn’t there...
Alice almost said that they should wait for someone else, but there was no one to wait for. Silly, she said to herself. You’re all confused today.

Alice looked back one more time before turning to walk on. It felt as if there should be someone there, and inexplicably, she felt an ache in her chest. Just being wistful, she told herself.

Of course there was no one there. There never was.

Lain would always watch from afar - never getting to close, even if her body, or what was left of it after being integrated into The Wired

But then, she was a goddess now. A man-made goddess, an analgesic for the stream of consciousness that
mankind destroyed itself with.
Even though the past memories were now void, no longer existed, Lain treasured them above all else. Reliving the few happy memories, the memories of Alice, Alice’s kindness, her smile, so many daydreams and hidden smiles that became unveiled and a reality. It was that, those warm memories which sustained her in this cold world of chains of data, words and numbers pressed tightly together, transparent puzzle pieces that made everything be

The girl ‘Lain’ no longer existed, the world had gone on without her and it was for the best, surely even if it hurt.
She wished this, she brought it out herself. It’d brought tears to her eyes to say that one last goodbye. Funny, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d cried before that.

But it was for the best, their lives were guided, she, the unknown and unworshiped goddess did what she could, rewriting each hurt and tear, pressing the tragedy out of the people’s life.

And as for Alice... I am always with you, she told herself. And nothing else matters.

August 6: To the lords and ladies of Byzantium - TeniPuri - Byzantine [Drabblet, Tezuka and Fuji interaction]

--
Byzantine >adjective 1 relating to Byzantium (later called Constantinople, now Istanbul), the Byzantine Empire, or the Eastern Orthodox Church. 2 excessively complicated and detailed. 3 very devious or underhand.
--

It was so very like Fuji, his face unreadable. Under a plastered-on smile that just cracked at the edges.

Fuji started out the conversation easily enough, talking of studying history together (“Isn’t it your favorite subject?”) Sounding friendly, but something lurked beneath the surface, something always did, and Tezuka waited for the inevitable reason to show it’s face.

“Is that all?” Tezuka asked, a critical eye assessing his surroundings.

“Even Rome fell” Fuji answered. With the unsaid words, “and so will you”

Tezuka was wordless, silent, but went on his way. Turned his back, visibly unshaken.
For he knew very well he would fall, but at least, he would fall with honor.

Dare I ask WTF is up with this theme? My mind is like “@_@” right now. Gah, pathology paper....sleep....business plan....pathologypapersleepbusinessplan...
