Open letter and lesbianism

Dear Insidious Sector Of Fire Emblem Fandom,

Heather is a lesbian. This isn't negotiable. Every aspect of canon points to her in fact, being a lesbian. Her base scenes consist of her:

-Flirting with Ilyana
-Wanting to meet Elicnia, who she thinks is glorious

and she openly flirts with Nephenee when you recruit her.

The Japanese version had a note in her profile that she 'joined for all the pretty girls'.

Ike/Soren is YMMV, but there is no wiggle room here. Heather is, without a doubt, lesbian. You can't even put a case for bisexuality here, because she shows quite often that she is not interested in men.

So she isn't 'waiting for the right guy to come along.'

There's no proof that Heather was abused in game, and writing this as being the cause of her lesbianism/'female friendship' is incredibly offensive. This is an old, discredited trope that should've died long ago, people. This is beyond simple extrapolation or exploring background–it's deeply homophobic and needs to DIAF, now.

Writing Heather like this isn't 'different' or 'edgy', it's offensive. I say this as a biromantic lesbian who has to put up with a heterosexist world who can only focus on when I'm going to get a man and settle down for some young 'uns.

I have kept my irritations of the FE fandom to my journal. I've rolled my eyes and bitched to Ammy when the stupid fanbrats use such arguments as "Ike/Soren is a crack pair" and then they turn around and ship a 'far better' het equivalent, who have never spoken in game. I have decided to fight back not by engaging them, but by bolstering my own ship with fic, fanmixes, icons and meta even when they were hostile and insulting at every turn.

But I'm tired of letting Fire Emblem Mew Mew, and any of their cronies call the slash side the wanky ones, while they pull homophobic bullshit like this. But in the end, my state of mind of adding to a fandom as my way of fighting back still stands.

So I propose a contest.

Write, draw, mix or meta about Heather with a woman. Or two. Or more. There's no limits here when it comes to genre or rating.

Put the 'Heather/woman contest' in the summary.

Let's flood Fire Emblem Mew Mew and their cronies into the crazy minority of a fringe group that they are. And get Heather lots of love, too.

Then we'll all be winners.
