the tag which has the round ups~
Overall: 317 written total.
This is the point where I'd label series, but I'm too lazy to.
Longest oneshot:
Catharsis should be mentioned, as it was intended to be a oneshot at first. The Pawn King, A Song For Rebirth, Xian Silk. There was a lot of them.
Longest overall piece:
Catharsis, as most of the other WIPs were mostly written last year.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what
you'd predicted? Much, much, much more. Because I was ill I was writing an amazing amount. I didn’t want to get up or move and since little happened...I wrote and read. My ennui was epic this year.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?:
I did a lot more plot oriented things, like The Pawn King and A Song for Rebirth. I kept up with trying to make my stuff less sparse and have more weight to it. I think it worked for the better. Also, somewhere along the line I realized that I really can write humor. I still need to learn how to better implement dialogue, though.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009? Fuuin, Echidna/Lalam, Gonzales & Lilina, returning to Vampire Knight and shipping Kaname/Yuuki, getting into the Merlin fandom to the degree I did. Also BBT. I really didn’t think I’d ever get into the fandom like I did. The show really grew on me.
Do you have any fanfic or prolific goals for the New Year? Finish, post, etc.
The general things. Finish WIPS, post new WIPS, beat my favorites into the ground some more. I want to do some more original. That’s one big regret, that I didn’t do as much original as I wanted.
Some more specific things... as mentioned in before post, I started a huge Marvel (with some DC?) verse, with Johnny/Peter, no less. It was utterly spontaneous, but Ammy's happy. I also started a Neverwhere ficverse. Which again, was spontaneous.
My favorite stories this year (of my own):
Catharsis
Curiosity Killed The Cat
This Fragrance
I liked most all of the Ike/Soren I did, if only because it makes the shipper inside me happy.
My best story this year:
A Song For Rebirth
Catharsis
Dryad
The Pawn King
The Untold Powers Of The Body
Snow Woman, Plains Woman
Story most unappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Flames because...I don't know why.
Once Called a King because no one cares about Pelleas, apparently.
If Wishes Were Horses – actually, all the Nana fic I did save for Barefoot In Bishopsgate.
The Flower of Forgetting because no one cares about post-Hatori/Kana and beginning Hatori/Mayu?
Zephyr & Sand, because no one cares about gen, apparently.
Dreams, Not Reality & Dragon & Phoenix because...I don't know why, actually. I liked these.
Wrong Place, Right Time because no one cares about YanagiKirihara?
Most fun story: I had a lot of these! All those silly Aus I was working on definitely count.
I split this between stuff that was really fun to write and stuff that was actually funny. Often, they intersected.
Curiosity Killed The Cat: Ranulf being...Ranulf never gets old. Also, Ike and Soren being both desperately in love with each other and neither realizing and Ranulf just sitting back and thinking it was hilarious. Not even to mention the part where Ranulf goes searching for Soren’s hypothetical diary because he’s convinced that it’s filled with hearts and squiggles and emo poetry all dedicated to Ike.
Every Happy End: it belongs on here for Sheba and Alex alone. Seriously.
(Most) Everything for the Merlin fandom. Occasionally there was a sad one, but mostly I devoted my time to writing as much crack as was physically possible.
Gloria In Excelsis Deo: Dogma, Mokona, Morgan Freeman and Dean. Need I really say more? I was giggling the whole time I jotted this one down.
It's A Wonderful Strife: I was grinning the whole time I wrote this. It was just ridiculously fun to write Clow's voice here.
Letting The Cat Out Of The Bag: Fuji family hijinks.
Simple Pleasures 8: Whims: includes jokes about Mpreg that breaks Tezuka’s brain and Fuji saying that he’d make Tezuka his prison bitch. All in under 300 words.
Thick As Thieves: My retarded original homoerotic thief parody. Need I say more?
This Fragrance: Boyd being an idiot never gets old. Also, the humor makes me crack up every single time, especially the Boyd - Soren talk.
You Are A Runner And I Am My Father’s Son: the omakes were ridiculous and a blast to write. So was the actual story (“he was pretty sure he’d seen this porno before”, the tabloids, etc.)
Most sexy story: (shouldn't that be ‘sexiest?'): Honestly, I wrote so much porn it’s hard to say. I think the kinkverse fics earned their NC-17 rating the most. Maybe the maid one which I technically didn't finish yet but maid fic ok.
Story with single sexiest moment:
The Dragon’s Wife, even if I didn't finish it. The reverse seduction scene and the sheer fact that it was power-play shibari. Also, the fakeout makeout scene in You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son
Story with single sweetest moment:
Catharsis:
“This is the part where I go ‘I love you’, I think.” as well as the end where Soren thinks he will learn to be happy.
A Song For Rebirth:
“I know that you are a man who was willing to give up his whole illustrious life for a race you had been taught to hate, and for me. I know that you are kind, and good, and that is all I need to know to love you.”, “Wherever you go will be my home.”
I do a lot of sweet stuff.
Most unintentionally telling story: 13 stories. It’s original and based on dreams. A number of my original stuff is.
The Dragon’s Wife (more original!) is telling in that a lot of Shou’s illnesses and mentality was based on myself. Not as an author’s avatar, more in that I knew loneliness, isolation and constant illness and felt I would be able to write it more easily than other traits. “Write what you know” It proved surprisingly cathartic, too.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Oedipus Rex. Almedha/Pelleas. Need I say more?
Ok, it was for the kink meme. I cut it off before the sex because my brain was hurting at the idea of writing that, but it still managed to be supremely creepy with oedipal psuedocest and Amedha being..Almedha.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
You Are A Runner And I Am My Father’s Son: it gave me a new perspective of Kakashi and made me realize I really like writing him.
Biggest disappointment:
The Language Of Cities never really made me happy. Maybe because it was a first fic and I was still getting a hold of the characterization. It wasn’t a huge disappointment, however, since Meeerf liked it and that was all that really mattered.
Also, I don't like Skinny Dipping At The Water Hole, but it was just a quick drabble, so it's no big loss.
Biggest surprise:
Small Mercies got received very well and even got nominated for a contest. Which it won. A lot of people say it was really good, one of the best they've read. See, when I was writing I was like FJHLKSSDA FINISH THINGS NAO because I went a little overboard with the claiming on SpringKink. I was dissatisfied with it, though I liked the motif. Basically I wanted it to be this ~BIG EPIC~ and it didn’t comply but I went “Fuck it” and just left it as it was. Still a lot of people thought it was great as it was, so I guess what I was trying to say came through.
Hardest story to write: The Tangled Sea, which technically isn't finished, but it still belongs here. There’s a history behind this.

Catharsis: While the first two times I worked on it went well, the time when I decided I was going to finish it right now turned into me beating my head on the keyboard the whole month. Eventually on

A Song For Rebirth: I wrote a almost 3,000 words and then got utterly stuck. Eventually I had to cut out a whole section because it was bothering me characterization wise. Then halfway through Elena’s characterization changed a bit, but I liked it so I kept it. Started in February, ended in September.
Easiest story to write:
I had plenty of easy ones. This Fragrance & Curiosity Killed The Cat were both finished in one night. When Peter Met Johnny isn't technically finished yet, but it belongs here as I jotted down 6,000+ words in maybe, three days? It came really easily.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
I don't think it had a theme?
