[livejournal.com profile] 31_days August 5 - Eyeshield 21 - Details. [for M ♥]

Since August 5th is also [livejournal.com profile] bikun's birthday, I figured I'd do this one for her - for she is pure sex and deserves much more. It is, admittedly a bit rushed. So sorry for that. I may have to give you the other gift you requested 8D - Ribbon, complete lack of clothes and all~ Would you like a cat bell with that as well? You’re free to have my cat ears, dear~

Anyways, fic.

[August 5 A boy - Eyeshield 21 - Shin/Sakuraba (or is it Sakuraba/Shin? Muaha~) - Details]

--

It’s all in the details.

It is not questioned why they became friends, by others or themselves - they just are, and always have been together.
From the first time they met, they were, Sakuraba relaxed and felt somewhat secure, grounded. Shin’s lips turned ever so slightly upwards, his face looked less stern.
Thus, they began. It wasn’t something that can be discerned, described, just there.

It’s those little details between them that Sakuraba can never quite figure out.

The air is damp and limpid, Sakuraba feels as if it’s the first time he’s breathed in weeks.
Shin moves through all the motions of training with fluid grace and an unrivaled passion that
burns in each drawn out movement. Sakuraba watches and offers towels, water, timing and idle chatter which all seem to mix together with his underlaying concern. He rarely leaves Shin’s side, even when training. Shin rarely talks, but Sakuraba doesn’t mind and never has.

Sakuraba knows the distance between them, knows that their roles should be reversed, that it should be Shin, not himself in the spotlight and sometimes wishes it was so. But it is this, and he accepts it. Sometimes with difficulty.

They still train together, and Shin makes the proper allowances, a few breaks that he would not usually take.
Sakuraba finds this silence between them comforting, there are no questions, no assumptions, Shin does not judge him even when the gap between their strengths grows larger.

Even when Sakuraba cannot run anymore, he stays.
Waiting with a stopwatch, he clocks the time - nearly Shin’s best - and offers congratulatory words and the kind of sincere winning smiles that makes girls melt and fall before his feet.
It is how they work, Sakuraba admits they work well together. He’s never asked, but he thinks Shin would say the same if asked.

It’s the little details that Sakuraba can’t quite grasp, why Shin takes the fall for him time and time again, why he stays by Shin’s side, why these minute details bother him so.
One day, Sakuraba swears he’ll figure them out. But for now he’s content to stay by Shin’s side.
