What ever happened to Fuh-Q fests? I remember seeing a Bleach one way back when, but I wasn't a porn writer back then, so I never joined in. They used to be a thing, apparently, especially in HP fandom, but looking back, I can't remember any in recent fandoms, and most of them are from the 04-06 realm. Did they mostly die out, like the 30 and 100 challenge communities? Did kink memes make them unneeded? Trying to find information on them is a pain, as all I'm getting it is a homophobic urbandictionary note.
I'm sort of sad that I never got to participate in one. Would creating one even be viable? In most of my fandoms it'd be duncare or "there's already a kink meme, why bother lol"
Maybe a mini on my journal?
Also, when did the Steve/Tony fandom become wanky? I wandered off from comics fandom and then I go on fail fandom anon and they're talking about trolling, stalking, wank, other stuff!
Then again, sans Karolina/Xavin, and maybe Billy/Teddy most of my comics writing is hidden away in my journal because Ammy is my comic fandom, basically.]
...Largely because COMICS BOOK FANDOM NEVER GIVES ME KAROLINA/XAVIN PROMPTS WHYYY /weeps for her sparkly rainbow aliens that no one else loves.
this discussion brought up some interesting points, though it's from a couple years back and in a different fandom atmosphere. I think that describes why I've been so burned out on springkink the past few rounds, or why I've embraced kink memes and comment_fic/fic_promptly for their open time frames.
Then again, it could be said that all prompt communities encourage an "order up" mentality of fic, encourage certain tropes/kinks/pairs over others and makes you put certain ideas on the backburner which might be more revolutionary, or let your WIP languish.
But it also encourages people to write more, and may make them write longer, better and different paths than they wouldn've on their own, or write pairs they might've not originally considered.
Basically, two sides to every coin, yeah. I don't think fests are the bane of all fandoms anymore than getting rid of the OTP mentality will end all ship wars.
Re:NaNo. I'm like...I WANT TO WRITE ALL THE THINGS.
ALL THE THINGS.
No, seriously. I WANT TO WRITE A NOVEL, AND NOVEL-SIZED FIC, AND UPDATE THINGS, AND DO FILLS, AND KICK ASS AT THE CHALLENGE WEEK AT FIC_PROMPTLY AND ALSO STUDY.
SLEEP IS OPTIONAL.

the good old days of fandom? This meta is interesting. Does it bring back any nostalgia,

It's a bit frightening, though. I don't want to imagine a world without cat macros. I like to imagine they were always with us, and that right after cavedudes with phallic spears attack mastodon there was some cave artist who drew a picture of ceiling cat, who watched them masturbate.
